Establishing a skincare routine can be quite intimidating, especially if you’re a beauty beginner. It’s also never too late (or early!) to start one, if you don’t have a routine yet.
A good skincare routine doesn’t necessarily mean adding tons of products to your daily regimen. It’s also important to note that there’s no single formula that works best on everyone, because it will depend on your skin type, lifestyle, budget, and external factors (such asenvironmental aggressors).
What are the Different Skin Types?
There are four basic skin types pertaining to sebum production: normal, oily, dry, and combination.Normal skin doesn’t experience dry patches nor excess oil, and concerns like acne and sensitivity.Oily skin usually leaves a film of shine all over the face, and may even be one of the causes of acne and blackheads.Dry skin often looks and feels tight and flaky, whilecombination skin generally has an oily T-zone (the forehead and nose) but is dry everywhere else.
A 3-Step Simple Skincare Routine
Regardless of what skin type you have, below are three very basic steps that anyone can easily incorporate into their daily routine.
Always start and end your day by washing your face with a gentle cleanser. If you wear makeup daily, make sure to double cleanse with an oil-based makeup remover (for waterproof makeup) or micellar water (for makeup that’s easier to wipe off).
Those with oily skin, which is more common in the Philippines because of our tropical climate, often veer away from using moisturizer due to the misconception that applying moisturizer everyday will make them even oilier. But this isn’t true at all! Contrary to what most people may think, applying moisturizer on oily skin actually helps reduce the production of sebum--giving skin even better texture.
The last and perhaps most important step is applying SPF to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays. The Ellana Loose Mineral Foundation combines mineral and botanical ingredients, and gives dual function by providing coverage while also acting as natural sun protection
Of course, like any routine, consistency is key to achieve the desired results! May this simple skincare routine encourage you to start your own.
