Aging is a natural occurrence, and our body’s needs change as it progresses. The same changes apply when it comes to our skin; the older we get, the more care it needs to stay supple and healthy. And while we can’t turn back the clock, we can help our skin stay nourished and provide it with protection against external stressors.
“So what do we nourish our skin with?” What we put on our skin plays a huge part in how our skin behaves, so if you haven’t been reading ingredient lists before today, now’s a good time to start!
Below, we get into four of our favorite ingredients when it comes to improving skin cell turnover, fighting free radicals, and protecting the skin against further damage!
Allantoin
A popular skincare ingredient in many K-beauty products, allantoin is a water-soluble compound commonly extracted from comfrey plants. Skincare products usually contain a lab-created version, which is chemically equivalent to its botanically-derived counterpart and proven to be non-toxic and safe for use.
With a number of benefits under its belt, allantoin is a skincare favorite; some of its benefits include the reduction of inflammatory markers, the stimulation of collagen to aid in skin healing, and the prevention of trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) to help maintain the skin’s moisture levels. Talk about a powerhouse!
Allantoin is a key ingredient in our Blur Classic Primer, which works double duty to hold makeup in place while nourishing and protecting the skin beneath.
Rosa Centifolia Extract
Obtained from the cabbage rose, Rosa Centifolia extract is packed with Vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps the skin fight off free radical damage while speeding up skin cell turnover to support wound healing. It also contains antiseptic properties, which helps treat common skin diseases like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.
Trying to reduce redness and inflammation? Look no further: The antioxidant content of Rosa Centifolia extract helps combat environmental stress while soothing the skin and keeping it moisturized. This makes it a popular ingredient for soothing face mists and hydrating serums!
Rosa Centifolia extract is one of the main ingredients in our hydrating Lip & Cheek Gel, a lightweight formula that provides a natural blooming stain on lips and cheeks. It's also in our Flower Power Facial Mist & Setting Spray, highly recommended for dry or mature skin as its Vitamin C content helps improve skin cell turnover while providing much-needed moisture.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract
Widely used from ancient times until the present day, aloe is a popular skin and hair care ingredient used topically to soothe irritation and as well as support skin healing. Packed with vitamin B complex and vitamin C, this soothing ingredient acts as an anti-inflammatory to help the skin recover from irritation while strengthening the skin’s natural barrier.
As its natural structure allows it to penetrate into the dermis (the deeper layer of our skin), aloe helps improve the skin’s vitamin absorption and aids in stimulating collagen production for improved wound healing.
Aloe Barbadensis leaf extract is a key ingredient in both our Lip & Cheek Gel as well as our Flower Power Facial Mist & Setting Spray. Both work to soothe and moisturize skin while helping minimize irritation.
Zinc Oxide
Ever used a physical sunscreen or a diaper cream before? Chances are there’s zinc oxide in it. This insoluble compound contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it a popular ingredient for formulas designed to combat skin irritation and calm inflamed lesions in sensitive skin.
Apart from being an anti-irritant, zinc oxide also works to protect the skin from UV damage and further irritation by forming a barrier on top that shields the skin from various environmental stressors.
Zinc oxide is in our popular Loose Mineral Foundation, our Pressed Mineral Foundation, as well as our Original Glow BB Foundie, all of which are formulated to help heal the skin while protecting it from sun damage and other environmental stressors.
